I'm glad you're getting some rain. We had to water today, as there was only a little rain, but at least we have the stream from the spring ... and even mains water if it's really necessary. So you see, we're spoilt!
Lucky you! We had a very unusual itsy bitsy sprinkle of rain last night. It did little more than make things smell a bit freshened up. But that's more than normal for this time of year. I'm a fortunate gardener, we have our own well and I have my entire garden set up on a drip system. Municipal water is incredibly expensive around here. Even though I don't have to pay for it, I try to be conservative with my water use. It's become a bit ingrained after going through a couple of major droughts.
The garden consists of three terraces to the south with a field at the bottom. To the north is the track that passes the house.
In general the soil is fine and sandy with areas of rock and scrub... not ideal garden material, but we want try to work with it and not attempt to create something that isn't sustainable. In the summer the weather is hot, although a few degrees cooler than down in the valley, and in the winter we have cloud, frost and snow and the winds... well, they can be fierce at any time of the year!
There is no mains or agricultural water, so we irrigate the plants that need it by recyling the grey water and occasionally "topping up" with a visit to the well outside our village.
